BODW 2014: Designed by Hong Kong 3rd Episode - Design for Upcycling Culture: thecaveworkshop “Reclai
Organised by Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), “Designed by HK” is a series of sharing sessions, as well as the lead-in of Business of Design Week (BODW) 2014 featuring the Hong Kong creative talents.
To protect our environment, can we upcycle our waste materials instead of recycle them only? Some designers are giving new life to these unwanted materials by transforming them into new practical, attractive and humorous goods through their innovation and a series of design strategies. Promoting designs by local talent, the 3rd Episode of “BODW2014: Designed by HK” Sharing Session will be held on 20th September (Sat) featuring a wide array of upcycling designs and products. thecaveworkshop is a new upcoming team of design and creative in Hong Kong. The team has been courageous since the start and is known for their handmade experimental reclaimed wood furniture, and using new materials to produce simple and functional items. They will show us their unique angle on “Upcycling” and “Do-It-Yourself (DIY)”.
On the other hand, Kevin Cheung, an upcycling product brand name designer, with a profound concern for the environment and community development, he implements upcycling in his design and art: re-using and converting waste materials to create products of better quality and better environmental value. In this episode, both thecaveworkshop and Kevin Cheung are going to discuss how to transform waste material into usable items and turn their innovative design concept into the next product trend.
About “Designed by Hong Kong” Sharing Session Series
From this July to late November that before BODW, HKDC will organise a series of “Designed by Hong Kong” sharing session every month, the designers will be invited to speak for the topics around design of communication, fashion, multi-media, product, etc., this event aims at providing an interactive platform for the promising local designers/brands to share with the audience their design process and success stories, promoting design excellence, championing strategic and wider use of design for creating business value and community benefits; and bringing Hong Kong to an important role in the world through design and innovation.
