What's new at BODW 2014? Candy Crush & Multi-Massive Online Gaming Business?

July 7, 2014

"LIVING DESIGN: LIVE IT, WORK IT, WEAR IT, DO IT"

This December, design incubator Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) will join forces with experts from across the globe to present Business of Design Week (BODW), an annual conference touting educational seminars led by captains of industry, discussing how design can foster commercial success across many types of business operations. The seminars use case studies to illustrate how wisely designed products and services can maximize a company’s potential.

This year, BODW has partnered with Sweden to include a bunch of seminars led by its local design professionals. Included in the mix are a pair of Scandinave gaming tycoons: Tommy Palm of Candy Crush Saga fame and David Polfeldt, the guy behind the upcoming role-playing game Tom Clancy's The Division from Massive Entertainment. They will discuss how pairing design thinking with business sense optimizes deliverables, user experience and ultimately, how combining the two schools of thought help their bottom line.

True to this year's credo, "Live it, Wear it, Work it, Do it," (there's a Daft Punk reference in there somewhere) the seminars focus on lifestyle, fashion, tech and interactive gaming design. The seminars also focus on branding strategies, eco-friendly design, and effective story-telling within marketing campaigns. These topics are sure to fascinate when discussed by Swedish nationals, since their wintry homeland has been the origin of so many global success stories. If you're doubting the influence of the country's accessible, cost-effective design focus, try asking yourself whether you own an IKEA or H&M piece—yeah, we thought so.
