Communication & Design
"Tell me and I'll forget. Show me and I might remember.
Involve me and I will understand."
Benjamin Franklin
Social media is capable of some pretty awesome things—from a film star's marriage proposal, to helping a NBA player secure a date with an Aussie pop star, it has shifted how Millennials communicate with each other. Ideas, thoughts and messages are now grouped by tracker tools such as hash tags, so its not much of a surprise that companies have figured out how to involve Twitter and Instagram into their marketing campaigns. Today, the most successful campaigns are often driven by human interaction, celebrity endorsement or captivating content.
At this year's Business of Design Week, design duo Pete Hellicar and Joel Gethin Lewis will discuss how they paired communication with design to create successful branding campaigns. Their projects include Hello Cube—part of Louis Vuitton's Young Arts Project—an art installation that changed colour based on instructions via Twitter. Hellicar and Lewis were also hired by Coca-Cola to put together a musical event, which involved fans offering feedback via Twitter to assist dreamy boy band crooners—sorry, brand ambassadors—Maroon 5 to write a new pop song inside a 24-hour broadcast.
At this year's BODW, Hellicar and Lewis are among the industry leaders who will discuss their experiences using communication tools and design knowledge to take their initiatives and companies to the next level.
Space & Design
"Form follows function."
Louis Sullivan
Award-winning architects and design leaders will discuss how they combined creative thinking and engineering to create their successful spatial design projects during BODW 2014. From modern architecture and abstract builds to traditional, classic museum types, the projects our speakers have participated in are unique, fascinating and are sure to inspire.
